It’s time to welcome spring again as we look forward to another year of buds, blooms, and branches! All of us here at the Garden Center are excited to begin Mill Creek’s 15th year of serving you here at our Wadsworth location. Many changes and improvements are occurring at the Nursery and Garden Center this year, and they’re all for the benefit of you - our Customers!

When you come to the Garden Center this spring watch for the two newest additions to our Mill Creek family: Mr. Kelly Newborn and Ms. Brenda Lunde! Both of these individuals had previously been employed at Craig Bergmann’s Country Garden Center. Due to a shift of focus in that Company’s business operations, we are now pleased to have the opportunity to welcome these two wonderful people to work with us, here at Mill Creek Garden Center! Color us very lucky!
 

PLANTS AND ACTIVITIES FOR SPRING 2006

This year we have many new perennials to offer you for planting in your flower beds. Some of the new items include: ‘Firewitch‘ Dianthus (2006 Perennial Plant Association‘s Perennial of the year), ‘Black Beauty’ Heuchera, ‘Caramel’ Heuchera, ‘Raspberry Splash’ Pulmonaria, ‘Grape Knee High’ Lobelia, ‘Party Dress’ fall-blooming Anemone, ‘Key West’ Astilbe, ‘Lorraine Sunshine’ Heliopsis, and many others!

As a NEW feature this year, Mill Creek will be offering plants for patio planters. Customers will be able to bring their own pots and make use of our potting bench area. Soil will be available, as well as plants for the containers and customers will be able to do their own potting. This arrangement is available to customers on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday from 9:00 AM until 2:00 PM. Call the Nursery at 847 - 838 - 0501 to reserve a time slot to come in and pot up your containers. And for those of you who simply don’t have the time to do it yourself, Mill Creek will also have pre-potted patio container arrangements available for sale.

Beginning in late March (weather-permitting) we will be digging many large shade and ornamental trees to provide you with lots of options for your yard’s landscape plans this year. We’ve purposely avoided digging many of them in previous years, so that they could grow on and become nice large specimens for our Customers.

Choices will include Deborah, Royal Red, or Emerald Lustre Norway Maples, as well as Autumn Blaze Maples. River Birch and Whitespire Birch, as well as several different varieties of Ash trees will be ready. Catalpa trees, Katsura trees, Bald Cypress, and several forms of Linden (Basswood) are also here for your consideration. There are so many great trees to choose from!

Ornamental trees this spring will include: clump Prairiefire crabapples, single-stem Robinson or Spring Snow crabapples, as well as the unique Tina sargent crabapple. Other ornamentals available will be clump Autumn Brilliance Serviceberries, as well as the beautiful and fragrant Ivory Silk Japanese tree Lilacs. And don’t forget the wonderful, ever-popular Chanticleer ornamental Pear trees!

All of the above mentioned plants, and so many more, will be waiting for you at Mill Creek Nursery & Garden Center this spring!

THIS COULD BE YOUR YARD . . .

“One of the great things about being a Landscape Architect is that after I listen to a customer’s wishes and ideas, I begin to use my visualization skills in designing a garden for their site. Since each home and owner’s lifestyle is different from any other home, it becomes an exciting, fun and artistic expression for me. With our experienced, multi-talented crews to perform the work, I’m able to really use my imagination for each home site.”

Michael recalls one of his favorite landscape design and installation jobs that he had prepared for a customer. This was the customer‘s sentiment after experiencing the completed project:

As I meandered down the curved pathway, fragrances and colors from an array of flowering trees, shrubs and low-type groundcovers heightened my senses and called me forward to the next curve in the pathway. The chirping of the birds, and the butterflies swirling aimlessly overhead invited me onward once again. As I continued on, the reassuring sound of the leaves as they fluttered with the breezes made me feel very warm and safe, as if returning to some long-ago forgotten, secret hiding place to escape to created for me alone.

The shadows filtering thru the canopy of trees, with branches hanging ever so slightly over the pathway, led me ahead to a flagstone patio sitting area that was next to a slow moving stream. Following the water’s movement ahead several feet, my eye soon discovered several small waterfalls, which eventually cascaded into a free-formed pond.

On the far side of the pond is a hammock suspended between two beautiful flowering, dark pink crabapple trees. It was calling my name, and I knew I wouldn‘t resist. As I lay back, floating lazily in the hammock, I squinted up into the canopy of the flowering trees and let the colors and the light and soft spring breezes play with my sense of contentment. I took a couple deep breaths and exhaled, and knew I was safe, and at peace, in my garden.

LANDSCAPE DIVISION SERVICES AVAILABLE

The services provided by Mill Creek Nursery and Garden Center include SO MUCH MORE than just planting trees and shrubs. Most people are not aware of all the landscaping skills necessary to perfect the landscape design that most accurately reflects them as individuals. We offer the following services to help achieve these goals:

DESIGN WORK: We work with clients to provide on-site consultation, sketching or design analysis; everything
from brief hand drawn sketches, to complete master plan designs. On-site consultation calls are only $150, and all sketches, drawings, notes, etc. become the property of the Homeowner to use at their discretion in their own time frame. Quite often that’s all a Homeowner needs to get going. Please contact us regarding the cost of complete master plan landscape designs.

HARDSCAPES & SOFTSCAPES: Natural stone walkways, paths throughout the yard, patios and/or raised stone
planting beds are just a few of the many design options open to you. You might also want to consider Pond and
Waterfall features, and various forms of landscape lighting.

LANDSCAPE IMPLEMENTATION: Designing and installing entryway plantings, foundation plantings, and entire yard landscape design and installation services. We also provide maintenance of all gardens we install, as well as any existing gardens which may need attention.
